What is coaching?
Coaching is an empowering process whereby a trained professional supports and guides an individual to make transformational changes in one or more area of their lives. Using techniques and models grounded in psychology, a coach can, amongst other things, help an individual identify future goals and a plan on how to achieve them, develop their existing strengths and skills, overcome limiting beliefs which prevent them from taking action or boost their confidence in a variety of settings or situations.
What coaching is not…
It’s not therapy or counselling, which is often about resolving past issues before being in a position to move on. Whilst there are times during the coaching process, we might look at what has been holding you back, coaching as opposed to therapy, is much more future focused.
Your coach is also not someone to use as a friend to offload to. Every conversation you have with your coach is a conversation with purpose, designed to move you towards taking action to your desired outcomes.
Coaching isn’t about giving you the answers to your problems; it’s about helping you find your own solutions to creating your future. You are the expert in your world, even if you don’t know it yet, and you have the ability and potential to get where you want to be. We’re not here to give you advice or tell you what you need or should be doing. Neither is the coach responsible for your results, if you choose not to implement the actions you have come up with then your coach will explore with you what might have got in the way of this, but they are not responsible for you not achieving a successful outcome.
Please note, coaching is not a replacement for professional psychological help. If you are experiencing any mental health difficulties, your first course of action is to speak with your GP before seeking out any other intervention.
What kind of coach do I need?
There are many coaches out there, covering multiple areas and disciplines. Working to your agenda, we focus on helping you create the future you want, be it within your career or your life. We create a high support, high challenge environment to help you achieve the outcomes you’re looking for. And don’t worry, you want a coach that stretches you and holds you to account, we provide a safe and confidential space in which to explore and have fun in supporting you to move to the next level in your career and life.
Does the coach have a coach?
The short answer to that is yes. We all strive to be the best we can be and as coaches, our learning does not stop. As we ask you to make an investment in yourselves so as to achieve your full potential, we continually invest in our own education and practice.
Are you qualified?
Yes. Ruth has a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Applied Coaching and is a Certified Trainer in NLP and Coaching. She is a member of the Association of Neurolinguistic Programming.
You work face to face, over the phone or via video conferencing using Skype or Zoom? Is there a difference?
At present, we offer all three and there is no difference in the quality of service that we provide. Everyone has their own preference but the choice is entirely up to you.
Face to face coaching sessions take place at our office in centre of Leeds, 10 mins walk from the train station.
